The Department of Family Medicine is the flagship of general medical practice in the hospital, and provides holistic and personalized care, including managed care through the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The staff consists of 29  senior and 20 junior staff offering range of services stranded over four units: including general outpatient clinic, staff and corporate clinic, manage care unit (National Health Insurance Scheme) and outpatient clinic of the hospital annex (private health insurance)at the Federal Secretariat, Abeokuta.

A family practice department that provides preventive, curative and promotive health care services to individuals and families from cradle to grace, with strong involvement in health manpower training and health research.
Facilities and Services Provided
•    Outpatient clinic facilities, General outpatient clinic, Staff and corporate clinic,  Managed care unit (National Health insurance)

Training Programme
•    Residency training in family medicine towards fellowship of the West African College of Physicians and National Postgraduate Medical College.

  • Clinical quality assurance: use of ECG in management of hypertension.
  • Socio-demographic characteristics of patients with somatization
  • Comparison of lifestyle factors in hypertensive and normotensives attending the GOPD,  FMCA.
  • Overweight and obesity: clinical significance in patients attending the GOPD, FMCA
  • Various fellowship dissertations

•    Outpatient side laboratory, ECG, ultrasound machine.
•    Outpatient  clinic flectic and admission facilities for minor ailments
•    Capacity building in the above specialites and primary care research.

5-Year targets

  • Acquire facilities for integrative family care including in-patient medical and surgical care.
  • Develop specialty units in Geriatric care, Adolescent health, sports and travel medicine
  • Expand residency training programs and achieve at least 80% pass rate in fellowship exams
  • Increase research outputs and publications.
